Sally Dunaway, PT, DPT, obtained her Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology from Ohio University. She is a graduate of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Columbia University where she took part in the Pediatric Specialization Track. Her clinical internship at Elizabeth Seaton Pediatric Center in New York City gained her experience in treating pediatric neurological patients in a long-term care rehabilitation facility. She has been a member of the American Physical Therapy Association since 2005 and a member of the Muscle Study Group since 2011.

Since joining the Columbia University Medical Center in 2008, Sally has been part of the multidisciplinary team at the SMA Clinical Research Center. She has research experience in single and multi-center clinical research studies in SMA and other neuromuscular diseases as well as acting as an evaluator and/or co-coordinator in most clinical and observational trials. Sally coordinates a wheelchair and durable medical equipment clinic for our pediatric neuromuscular clinic population which provides evaluations and custom equipment. She also works as a private home care pediatric physical therapist performing evaluations and daily treatment sessions for pediatric patients diagnosed with neuromuscular disease.

Sally presented a breakout session titled "Physical Therapy, Power Mobility, and Rehabilitation Management" at a Columbia University Continuing Medical Education Course on Recent Advances in SMA and other Pediatric Neuromuscular Diseases. She participates in regional, national, and international meetings of clinicians and physical therapists to advance clinical care and clinical research in pediatric neuromuscular disease with a focus on early power mobility, physical outcome measures, and on research related to motor function and exercise.
